Greetings From the President
Hello! My name is Brittany King and I am the President of the Kappa Upsilon Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. and I am excited that you took the time to visit our website!
Our founders believed in striving towards excellence. Since becoming the first predominantly African-American sorority to be established on our campus in 1974, our chapter continues to embody that same standard of excellence. In Kappa Upsilon, we use our strength and wisdom to better our country and our community by partnering with local and national service organizations and by staying involved with governmental affairs. The women of the Kappa Upsilon chapter are also intelligent and involved scholars here on the campus of Auburn University. We have Sorors that serve in SGA, Black Student Union, War Eagle Girls, National Society of Black Engineers, student recruiting, and in a plethora of other campus organizations.
With this, it is my pleasure to be able to highlight and share with you all of the hard work, sisterly love, accomplishments, and fun that take place within Kappa Upsilon by way of our website. You will be able to access information about the history and objectives of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. (more information can be found on www.deltasigmatheta.org) and information on our chapter’s current and upcoming projects. In closing, it is my hope that our website proves to be interesting, informative, and inspiring to you.
Meet Soror Jamaya Jones
Soror Jamaya Jones is a Spring ’16 initiate of the Kappa Upsilon Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated. She is a senior majoring in Industrial Design. She will be graduating in Fall 2018. Jamaya is the chapter’s designer, meaning that she usually designs the chapter flyers and t-shirts.
At Auburn University, Soror Jones is involved in several organizations. She has served in the following:
In the summer of 2017, Jamaya was selected to study abroad. This is what she had to say about her experience: “My summer abroad was an amazing opportunity! I had a wonderful time! I took 14 credit hours of classes in an 8-week semester in China - Taiwan for 7 weeks and Hong Kong for 1 week - coupled with two design internship experiences, as well as various design exhibition tours. I learned a lot by being immersed in the culture and even learned to speak a little Mandarin. It was awesome.”
Soror Jones is passionate about Jesus and coffee. She’s passionate about inspiring little black girls. She’s passionate about words— and their ability to heal and hurt, and bring change. She’s passionate about the creation of things, and those things’ ability to make you feel something. Her goal in life is to wake up every day knowing that she’s exactly where God wants her to be, doing exactly what she was created to do. She wants to die having used up every ounce of potential God gifted her with. Jamaya’s favorite Bible verse is “Worry about nothing, pray about everything.” (Phil. 4:6) Congratulations, Soror! Continue to hold high the name of Delta!
